Breathing space
Simon arrived safely in Puerto Montt where the Chilean authorities organised some of the entry formalities overnight so that he could set foot on land, after 156 days at sea! A big thank you to the Chilean solidarity chain for organising his arrival, in particular Sergio and Gonzalo, and the Club Nautico Reloncavi, as well as Howdens for logistical support and the British Consul in Chile who assured Simon of his assistance if needed!
To his east, we breathe a little after holding our breath for 2 days. Kirsten has resumed her route to the Horn at good speed, while Abhilash who needs to give Bayanat some TLC after his 2 knock downs continues his NE route. A position that will expose him less to the next 30-40 knot gale that is expected in the area later this evening. They have 900 miles to go to the Horn and a 7-day window before the next low-pressure system.
Behind them, it’s party time for Gugg who is diving towards the NE corner of the exclusion zone for a planned exit tomorrow! Jeremy and Ian 1800 miles behind him are struggling with shifting wind conditions that bring (again) unpleasant sea state. Guy who has seen the Tasmanian coastline up close is less than 50 miles from Hobart for an imminent arrival, although thwarted by dwindling winds this afternoon.
