The Skipper
From Adelaide, Australia.
I have always been drawn to the sea. Years as a child spent in and on the waters of the south west pacific proceeded to years in and on the seas off southern Australia. A career in emergency and retrieval medicine has kept me occupied for a time and building a life and home for two was an essential and beautiful part of my life. Now I return to the sea. Time once again to sail solo, to race, to win, taste adventure and, perhaps, gain a better understanding of the world and my place in it.
The Boat
Dream Catcher is a cutter rigged Cape Dory 36 launched in 1981. The hull is molded in a single piece, as is the balsa-cored deck, with ballast mounted inside the keel cavity. Designed as a nimble blue water cruiser, and suitable for shorthanded sailing, she has been described as ‘comfortable, simple and seamanlike’. With her long overhangs, cutter rig and bowsprit she shows classic lines.
