On 14 August 2022, ahead of the start of the 2022 Golden Globe Race, all competitors will take part in the SITraN Challenge Charity Race

The SITraN Prologue Race starts in Gijon, Spain, Sunday 14th of August at 1300 at Bahia de San Lorenzo. ETA at the homeport of the GGR2022 in Les Sables D’Olonne, France is the afternoon of August 17th. You can join us live and online via Facebook for the start.

As preparation for the circumnavigation, all the skippers have to test critical communication during the prologue in preparation of the GGR2022: Sat phone messaging and calls, YB tracking and messaging, as well as finding radio beacons.

During the race there are no special rules like in the GGR. It is a fun race for the skippers, their families and friends and everyone interested.

The GGR fleet will be hosted by the Puerto Deportivo de Gijon, well versed in welcoming sailors from all over the world.

They will have a busy week of final preparations of their boats and attending safety briefings, setting up satellite tracking and communications systems specific to the Golden Globe. These systems are finally checked by the organisers before entrants depart for Les Sables d’Olonne. Entrants will also have time to discover the city and the many events during their stay.

The GGR skippers set sail on Sunday 14th August racing the SITraN Challenge, a 280-mile race to Les Sables d’Olonne, the Capital of Adventure and home of the GGR, in time for the opening of the Race Village on August 20th. That leaves just two weeks for final preparations before the start of the longest, loneliest sporting event on September 4th.
