Day 33

Southern trade winds, boarding now!

As Simon dives towards the Nordeste of Brazil, his four pursuers boarded the trade winds train this morning, Kirsten and Abhilash flying at 6 knots on the sides, while Pat and Tapio are continuing their friendly match-race in the late and long-awaited Easterlies! Abhilash should meet Neptune over the equator for lunch, Kirsten afternoon tea, and the dynamic duo for dinner.

In the wind lottery of the mid-fleet pack, the West still seems favoured again this morning with Gugg, Damien and Jeremy (now free of the undesirable hull visitors on Oleanna) posting the best 24 distance, Damien leading the fleet at 140 nm. As the wind picks up from the Southwest later today, the whole mid-fleet pack should be heading south in fresh wind, which will be a massive relief for Ertan and Guy who are really losing patience.

The pack should then share champagne and offerings with Neptune over the weekend before diving South. For Ian, Elliot and Arnaud further north, it’s more complicated, as they still have to cross a bubble, but it’s the doldrums game. Fortunately, between reading, cooking, playing music and writing, these three have found endearing non-sailing activities for the weekend.
