Day 51

Southern gliding

The GGR fleet is still gliding along in the trade winds, taking advantage of the established high pressure system moving eastwards, and it shows! The leading group sails around 150 miles/day on an easterly course (90/100°) led by Simon, followed by Tapio, joining him on a more southerly course after clearing the hull of barnacles yesterday, Abhilash, Pat and Kirsten, back in 5th place and catching-up.

The others further north continue going down on an ESE course at a good pace for Michael, improving his 7-day distance, Ertan, and Jeremy, albeit a little off-pace for Damien now 6° who lacks wind further north. All have lost hope in Rio for weather info and looking towards Cape Town.

Elliott rounded Trindade last evening, catching up with Guy Waites, 60 miles to his South whose hull inspection confirms it’s completely covered in barnacles. He too is waiting for better conditions to scrape them off. Both have decided to continue south before heading east. Ian is improving on his best week and should pass the island later today, followed by Arnaud in 3 days time.

This weekend they will all be on course for Cape Town!
