Welcome to the Club
We knew this was coming, after Oleanna’s high averages post-False Bay clean-up: Jeremy has improved his 7-day distance personal best at 1022 miles! He has now joined 5 other competitors in the race as well as GGR 2022 legends Pat Lawless and Damien Guillou in the GGR 1000-mile club. Well done Jeremy, and welcome to the club!
Ian is only 26.6 miles short of joining the club, and Guy, who could make landfall in Cape Town at the end of the week, will have to get rid of his barnacles first. Big distances are being posted at the forefront of the fleet this morning. Simon is diving below 44° South at 158 miles/day, followed by Kirsten at 179 and Abhilash at 151.
Elliott has finally found some wind and morale this morning, while staying on a latitude further north than the rest of the fleet, close to Guy’s latitude in the Atlantic, which gives him more upwind conditions. Arnaud is enjoying the warmer temperatures around the Tropic of Capricorn. All is good in the GGR fleet today and some are already looking at their Hobart arrival: Simon says December 19!
