Back from the back!
The honours today are for the back of the fleet, who are making good time at speed thanks to the wind coming back from the west. Guy has sailed 155 miles in 24 hours, just shy by one mile off his personal best of 155.8 and Elliott is back on a 100+ mile a day distance! The American is 1300 miles from Cape Leeuwin, 10% of the distance covered so far!
Ian is rounding Cape Leeuwin today, having crossed 2 of the 3 capes of his GGR! He and Jeremy in the middle of the fleet are diving south to find speed, they are 20% slower than usual but not for long, a low-pressure system will arrive tomorrow evening to their west. Gugg in Hobart is adding a reef to his mizzen sail, for an extra heavy weather combination.
On the South Pacific route, Abhilash and Kirsten are almost at a standstill, stuck between the Snares and the South Island wind shadow. Simon on the other hand, is breaking away to the east, in sight of the Bounty Islands and will be widening his lead until Thursday night, when the wind returns from the west for those chasing him.
