New world order
So much change in the GGR. Simon, after considering an adventure to Punta Arenas confirmed his choice of route to Puerto Montt at 850 miles, the landing port chosen in 2018 by Jean-Luc VDH, for an arrival next week. Meanwhile Kirsten is on fire, taking the absolute distance record over 7 days from Abhilash at 1169 miles! No doubt she will further improve over the next few days.
Abhilash has now completed the maintenance and repair to-do list on Bayanat, and took time to mend himself. He is now back on track and to more usual trajectories and daily averages. He said in his weekly call wanting to make a conservative exit from the South Pacific to Cape Horn and put his foot down later in the Atlantic. Michael in the same weather system is keeping up this infernal pace: 155 miles today!
Behind them, Jeremy and Ian are struggling to stay on course upwind for Bounty Islands, pushed off-course by a strong north-westerly flow and having to tack in confused seas. Guy, who is coming up to the longitude of Adelaide, has let the front pass and is now in the hardest weather in the 2022 GGR so far!
